Artists Rep In Concert with Noel Coward; guest blogger Voni Kengla

Posted on Nov 21, 2014

I’m just about to head out to rehearsal for the Noel Coward concert, and received a guest blog-post from Voni Kengla, one of our young artists.

Here’s what she has to say about the experience so far:

Wow! What a talented group of people to work with! I can tell this is going to be a great show. Noel Coward’s work is a joy to listen to because he enjoys playing to the unexpected. He’ll throw an eighth rest between syllables or make a phrase continue on past where you would expect it to end. My favorite Noel Coward signature is the recitative, or speak-singing because it’s unique and is rarely seen in contemporary theater. It makes the lyrics more believable and grasps the audiences attention. The lyrics are relatable to just about anyone! Every rehearsal is full of laughs, interpretive dance and Cher-esque hair flips courtesy of Isaiah Rosales. I’m so excited to be involved in this show! It’s going to be a good one!

Keeping checking in for more on our young artists’ experiences working on the music of Noel Coward!
