This isn’t the best photograph; the quote, from John Lennon is: My role in society, or any artist’s or poets role is to try to express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.- John Lennon 1972
I drove Kate back to school at Syracuse University this year and we made a stop in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an incredible place. I have taken for granted the music that I am able to listen to, and now that I’ve visited the hall of fame, no more. It reacquainted me with those brave artists, men and women, who put their bodies at risk to make music and tell stories that some people didn’t want to be heard. Hard to believe. Of course, this continues to occur, a person, and their idea of what is “good,” trying to limit the stories that can be told, and who can tell them. I find myself struggling with the type of stories that I gravitate to, and the question of what is important to be told. Today I am opening up to all stories. Bring ’em on, I can’t imagine I’ll ever tire hearing of the human experience, through music, theatre, dance, blogs, dogs, and automobiles.
